Who cares about the Eiffel Tower? I thought

as a kid. Down the street we got an electrical

tower and it lights up the whole block

It sat on a vast, generous grass

more empty space than was natural. People walked

their dogs but never got close

I thought I could ascend it. I’d forgot

that protective circle of shit, find a hidden elevator

or just climb. “You can’t,” Eric Covener told me.

“You’d touch the metal and fry.” Who cares

about climbing, I thought. There’s no view to

my neighborhood. Better to stay on the ground.
